I am a trained classical sculptor, teacher, and award-winning author with a passion for the human figure, and horses. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing & Finance, from San Francisco State University, I moved to Europe where my fervor for classical sculpture flourished, having the opportunity to study Europe’s best art collections. After my return to the US I pursued classical sculpture training and stone carving for 5 years under the tutelage of international Master Sculptor Harriet Moore in San Francisco, CA.
Since 1996 I have been sharing my knowledge teaching the only privately taught "Classical Figure Sculpture Class with Professional Model" in San Francisco from my studio. I also teach sculpture classes to young adults at Waldorf high school in San Francisco. I have the honor of being repeatedly invited to give live sculpture demonstrations at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco.
Author of “An Artist Guide to Proportions and Measurement of the Skeletal System", a 232-page book with over 200 original illustrations. Award winner at the International Latino Book Awards. A must-have for all artists interested in increasing their knowledge of the human skeletal system and essential relative proportions. Available at Amazon.
My work is recognized by my powerful style and a strong sense of movement, depth, and elegance. To protect and increase the value of my collector’s artwork, my bronze sculptures are deliberately kept to true Limited-Editions of nine (9) or less. My horses have won "Equine National Competitions" and "Best in Show Awards,”. My work can be found in private collections worldwide. My work is featured in various art galleries worldwide. I also collaborate with: art agents, landscape architects, city planners and private collectors in creating original commissioned sculptures and outdoor fountains.
I welcome all private and public commissions of any sizes. I particularly enjoy sculpting One-of-a-Kind sculptures for private art collectors.
"The first time I visited Marilyn's studio I was stunned by the body of work displayed ... bronze cast figures and running horse each greeting me with intensity and power. Truly delightful work."
Renee M. Baldocchi - Public Programs and Docent Council Coordinator for the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, CA
"About Marilyn ... her carvings are reminiscent of Rodin but more sensitive, more tender, more fluid and lyrical ... they contain a marvelous and truly touching sense of pure spirit that she so ingeniously infuses into what was, before, mere innate matter." Muldoon Elder - Vorpal Gallery Owner, San Francisco, CA
"Marilyn produces beautiful and carefully executed sculptures, full of movement, muscles flexing, even when still."
Elisabeth Cornu- Objects Conservator - Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, CA
"In the five years of sculpture studies with me she learned and developed extraordinarily quickly. She grasped the basic fundamental of anatomy and design of the figure and now has added her own style, imagination, and originality."
Harriet Moore - International Master Sculptor, San Francisco, CA
"This is the best work I've seen since Rodin. You are special. I am truly humbled. Your work is so alive with passion... Exquisite."
G. King, Sculptor, Sacramento, CA
